How-do-you-do - I have only joined this forum. First time I have been on a bike forum for nigh 10 years! It looks like a friendly and helpful place to chat and become communication!

I take been riding bikes for 40 years now, and at no signal have I been without a bike of one sort or another! My current bike is a 1999 Hayabusa which I have had since new. Information technology is a great bike, and although I don't ride it every bit often equally I would like, it notwithstanding gives me a hell of a buzz!

Whilst riding in the Isle of Man in Baronial, I managed to stall the bike doing a U-Plough on a slope, and scratched the right-hand fairing panel. The only time I accept dropped information technology in well-nigh xx years!

Tin anyone propose somewhere to get this repaired to original condition? The damage is mostly superficial scratches - but at that place is a small split (mayhap i/2 an inch) where the end of the crank comprehend has split it?

I tried a couple of firms in the summer, but didn't get a reply. I assume they have gone bust! It must be possible to go this sort of minor damage fixed?

Thanks in advance!

Tin you post a pic of the damage?

There are heaps of YouTube videos on how to repair plastics. You lot tin plastic weld yourself, doesn't affair how mangled information technology looks, you can sand it back flat, use filler etc, touch up with paint or ideally re-paint the whole affair. If you prepare it right and follow advice you tin use a spray tin with good results. Including materials you could probably do it for £thirty and a twenty-four hour period of elbow grease.

Problem with a job similar that, it's non very technical simply takes ages so if you do manage to find someone who'll fix it you might exist getting quotes into the 300 marking.

Thanks for the replies - but I'm a bit surprised tbh that no-one has been able to recommend a business firm that can do the job for me?

I am not agin to a scrap of DIY, simply I am pretty sure I would not do the job well plenty for my own satisfaction!

There must exist repairers effectually who can do this sort of stuff?

Bicycle shops (at least the small contained type that used to accept people you lot can chat to) are a dying brood effectually here - just yep, I will ask around...

If it's fibreglass (rather than ABS) I'd think about finding a nearby classic car repair store with fibreglass repair experience.

By the time you accept into account prepping and spraying the whole console it would probably be more cost constructive to find a good used console as I suggest above.

This one's pretty thrashed but you lot become the idea:

Isn't this the sort of job that any car body workshop would exist able to cope with?

Most car body shops wont touch bikes. My mate won't touch mine, even if I prep it. Says they're more hassle than theyre worth. He'southward skilful, booked for months in accelerate, proper bake bay, paint matcher, the works, but he won't touch bikes.

Thanks for all the comments - but not one recommendation for a specialist repairer for bike fairings! Perchance they don't be? Maybe a gap in the market for someone?

The replies seem to exist divided into:

1) Gear up it yourself

- At that place's no way I could brand a seamless repair of this panel, with all the different curves, graphics, etc

2) Buy a used console off due east-bay

- Skillful idea in principle - just accept you looked? they're all even more knackered than my one!

three) Have it to a car trunk shop

Once more OK in theory, but they need to go the correct graphics, transfers or whatever and have experience of fixing ABS parts....

I'll simply have to await until I tin can find a used panel somewhere that is really in half-decent nick, of discover the 1, elusive cycle repairer in the country that can repair fairings!

Merely imagine a guy somewhere out there making a living out of repairing always-so-precious fairings and restoring them to original status with his plastic-welding skills, a scrap of wet-and-dry and OEM pigment, and doing then well he doesn't even advertise on the internet and he's only ever discovered by give-and-take of mouth on obscure wheel forums. Get figure...

WTF?
